Blaze is a drop-in replacement for cargo build and test on macOS Apple Silicon and Linux, keeping projects in memory to rebuild edited functions in milliseconds. It uses its own bundled nightly toolchain and Cranelift to update binaries without relinking from scratch, cutting iteration times by roughly 10x to 20x across projects like ripgrep and helix. The tool also supports hot reloading for running programs on supported platforms.
It trades substantial RAM—several gigabytes per project—for raw speed and uses its own isolated toolchain rather than your project pin. Because it is young and uses non-standard linking, you should keep cargo check or standard CI as your source of truth. It is worth installing if you spend your day waiting on large Rust codebases to relink.
